Descriptions are pieces of content, which can be utilized in multiple places. They are stored on the product level. They can be generated using Description Generators (Templates), and can be generated/edited manually. This adds more flexibility to your product data.
Listing Templates for Channels generate the channel-related content directly during the post/revise process. The content is not stored in the product. Using multiple listing templates, the content on the channel can be quickly updated, and the update can be scheduled in advance.
Q: Can description templates be used on eBay or other channels?
Yes. Description templates can be used as part of eBay/Amazon/Etsy or other channel's template. insert the Description field allows you to have more simplified listing template, or some manually entered content in the listing.
Q: should I have separate Channel Templates for each product types?
Not necessary. If the only thing changing in the template are the product parameters (type, gemstones, weights etc) - definitely no. You can use the [HASHTAGS] to dynamically set the right product data.
On the other side, if you have different static content in the template according to each product type - it's better to use separate eBay/Amazon listing templates.
Example:
- for unique Rings you write that you provide FedEx shipping, red heart-shaped box with LED lightening etc...
- for cheap necklaces the static content says you provide USPS shipping, and they are sent in a velvet pouch.
In this case, different listing templates are required.
